Speed & Sound: Show & Go Civic Hatch
Steve Colombe of Team OverDosed Performance set out to build a show car but he didn’t want to build the typical ‘all show and no go’ show car. So, besides the usual over-the-top sound system and esthetic modifications, Steve wanted to do something special in the engine department. With the help of AvFab and the rest of Steve’s sponsors, a cool and different show car was created.
What makes a show car is its ability to draw attention at car shows… and this Civic has that base well covered. It begins with a ViS Racing Invader front bumper, and in addition to a custom rear bumper and side skirts, it also has a custom vented hood… but I will get to that later. Other exterior modifications include a Spoon Duckbill roof spoiler with a mid wing, and aftermarket lights in front and rear… topped off with a very sweet custom paint job.
The interior is where the show of this car really starts. Pretty much every part has been modified in some way. The dash has been painted, the door panels done in vinyl, MOMO steering wheel, custom leather seats and a Eurolite Reverse Carbon gauge cluster just to name a few of the little things done. The big modification interior-wise comes in the form of the sound system, with the addition of a huge custom enclosure. It starts off with a Pioneer AVH-P4100 DVD In-D head unit with a 12.5 Diesel Audio flip down monitor and two Pioneer Premier 1 tweeters. Here is where things get interesting. Stuffed into the enclosure are eight Black Air 12-inch subwoofers, two Black Death Box Bass 1 Amps, one Black Death Box Stereo 4 Amp along with two Black Air 60 speaker components all supplied by Vibe Audio. Powering all of this is a Kinetic 1400 amplifier and Shuriken SK-BT129 2600-amp batteries with a Raptor 10-Farad Capacitor and a 600w Power Inverter to make sure there will never be a power shortage while the system runs all day at car shows.
Meanwhile, on the underside of things, this car had a lot of work done to keep it suspended nicely, with the inclusion of a full Pro-Series suspension kit and components from Skunk2. With the weight of the sound system, this car also really needed a brake upgrade, so an Integra disc brake conversion was done to both the front and rear along with swapping in Brembo rotors and PBR ceramic brake pads. To top it all off, the car is riding on 17-inch ALT wheels with a +35 offset wrapped in sticky 205/40R17 BFG GForce T/A KDW tires. With the suspension and tire combo now at the party, this car has been seen on track at a few lapping events. Pretty impressive for a show car.
